Somali Forces Make Major Gains Against Al-Shabaab in Mudug Region
In a bold and strategic operation, the Somali National Army (SNA), supported by local militia groups, has successfully cleared several Al-Shabaab strongholds in the Mudug region. The operation, which focused on areas under Xarardheere district, resulted in the liberation of villages such as Carfuudo, Juri Juri, and Bacadka Faarax Aadan.
These locations had long served as fortified bases for the militant group Al-Shabaab, making this a significant blow to their operations in central Somalia. The military campaign was carried out with remarkable coordination between national forces and community-led defense units.
Colonel Gaanburi Isduug, one of the senior commanders leading the operation, stated, “In recent days, the local organised forces, along with the Somali National Army and community defense forces in Xarardheere, have jointly confronted the terrorists, eliminating many of the Khawarij fighters.”
This effort is part of a larger campaign to reclaim territory from Al-Shabaab and ensure lasting peace in central Somalia. Although the recent operation marks substantial progress, parts of the Mudug region remain under militant control, highlighting the ongoing challenges in securing the area.
Nevertheless, the determination shown by the Somali National Army and local communities is a powerful sign that the fight against terrorism is gaining momentum. Continued unity and resilience are vital for driving the militants out of Somalia’s heartland once and for all.
Alhamdulillah, this is great news for our country
