World Cup 2022: Day of disappointment for England and Wales, but both can still qualify.

Wales looked to be hanging on to a battling point as the game ticked over into added time but two late goals from Roozbeh Cheshmi and Ramin Rezaeian earned victory for Iran, who were thrashed 6-2 by England in their opening match. Their task had been made harder when goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was sent off with four minutes of normal time remaining, following a video assistant referee (VAR) check, for a reckless challenge on Iran forward Medhi Taremi.

Iran had earlier seen a first-half goal disallowed for offside, before hitting the post twice in a matter of seconds early in the second period. Wales manager Rob Page had no complaints with the result, describing the performance as "nowhere near the levels we've set". He added: "When there are so many off days, there is only one outcome. It's a difficult changing room at the minute, but we will be ready [against England]." To qualify, Wales must now beat England on Tuesday and hope for a draw between the United States and Iran.

The USA had the better chances, midfielder Weston McKennie missed an easy opening and forward Christian Pulisic hitting the bar in the first half. Despite the disappointing result England remain firm favourites to qualify for the knockout stage, knowing they only need to avoid a four-goal defeat against Wales to progress, with the top two sides in the group going through. "The players are a bit down but I said I'm not down, I am not unhappy. It is a game you can lose if your mentality is not right," said England manager Southgate.

The new Somali government finally can control the terror of al-Shabaab.

Somalia

The federal government of Somalia announced yesterday that 49 members of Al-Shabaab were killed in a planned operation and bombing, while a number of others were injured.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Information said that the planned operation and bombings were carried out by the Special Forces of the National Security and Intelligence Agency, the National Armed Forces and international friends in Bulo Medina area in the Lower Shabelle region.

The operation which was a target took place as planned and destroyed all the military vehicles and weapons that the Khawarij Al-Shabaab had in the area, according to the statement issued by the Ministry of Information.

The members of Al-Shabaab who were killed in Buulo Medina area were preparing conspiracies to harass the Somali people, but they were foiled and defeated by the intelligence forces and the forces of the country with the help of international friends.

The Somali government has finally thanked all the Somali people who today are part of the fight to free Al-Shabaab from the whole country, and are standing by the armed forces of the country.

This operation, which the government said killed many Al-Shabaab, comes at a time when the operation against the group has slowed down, which was going on fast in many parts of the country.

2022 World Cup guide: Star players, must-see games, betting and more.

2022

The biggest sporting event in the world, the FIFA World Cup, is upon us, with play set to kick off in Qatar on Nov. 20 when the host nation faces Ecuador at 11 a.m. ET. And in order to get you ready for the biggest competition in the world, we've put together a primer for the fan. From tournament favorites and popular narratives to sleeper picks and some of the more obscure storylines to follow, there's something here for everyone.

First things first: yes, you are correct if you feel like this is the wrong time of year for a World Cup. The tournament is usually a June-July event, but it's being hosted by Qatar this year, which has "fry an egg on the road" weather in the summertime. Originally, Qatar's bid promised that they could completely air-conditioned stadiums and create artificial flying clouds that would shade entire matches. Seriously. The mockups looked like giant anime war aircraft.

All of those promises did not come to fruition in a way that would negate an average summer temperature of 105 degrees Fahrenheit, and so the World Cup is taking place in November and December. Even then, the stadiums are still going to need air conditioning for temperatures that will likely reach into the 80s. The timing of the tournament also means most major soccer leagues around the world are pausing for a month in the middle of their seasons.

World Cup 2022 news and updates.

Worldcup

Mason Mount admits England must improve defensively if  they are to go deep into the World Cup.While many were toasting the attacking display as England secured a 6-2 victory over Iran in their opening Group B fixture, shipping two goals annoyed manager Gareth Southgate.

Mehdi Taremi's brace, a powerful finish and a last-gasp penalty, prevented the Three Lions from achieving their biggest ever World Cup win and Mount believes conceding twice in the knockout rounds could see England going home early.

"I think you could see the way we moved with the ball and the combinations that we played with is something we worked on during the previous five days we were here," he said.

"But you see things about us needing to be more attacking but in the major tournaments you cannot afford to concede goals.

That is when you - going further - start losing games.

"So you have to focus on that. That is what we have been doing as well. How defensively solid we can be."To score six goals is amazing but to concede two is not what we want to do and something we will look at going into the next game."

Disney Plus vs. Netflix: How to Narrow Down to One Streaming Service.

Netflix

Streaming services like Netflix, Disney Plus and HBO Max have commanded our attention this year for their content and prices. But if you've been feeling the effects of inflation these last few months, there's probably a good chance you've put your subscriptions under the microscope.

Do you really need them all right now? Netflix surprised us with a price hike in early 2022, and just added a new ad-supported plan. Amid show cancellations and the impending password crackdown, some people are considering canceling their accounts. Disney Plus provides high-quality content that's on par with Netflix, and its low cost makes it stiff competition. It's also introducing an ad tier and raising prices, but at this moment, how do these two streaming giants compare in content and value? Both services have spawned huge pop-culture hits, as seen with The Mandalorian and Stranger Things.

During 2021, Disney Plus and Netflix had the most popular streaming content of the year, according to Nielsen. Both carry family-friendly gems, superhero stories, documentaries and feature films with A-list talent. You may be a longtime Netflix subscriber or only keep Disney Plus for your kids, and you've found a groove with all the streaming platforms you use. However, if you're someone who's weighing costs against which service to keep, here's guidance on how to choose.

Biography of poet John Donne wins UK nonfiction book prize.

John Donne

A book that argues Elizabethan poet John Donne should rank alongside William Shakespeare as a literary genius has won Britain’s leading nonfiction book award British writer Katherine Rundell’s biography “Super-Infinite: The Transformations of John Donne” was named winner of the 50,000 pound ($59,000) Baillie Gifford Prize at a ceremony in London on Thursday night. Rundell said she will give her prize money away to a refugee group and a climate-change charity — inspired by Donne's most famous lines: "No man is an island ...

any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind." “There are people who could make better use of that money than I could,” Rundell told The Associated Press on Friday. Rundell said Donne — who over the years was a seafarer, a legal scholar, a lawmaker and a priest — “burst out of the confines” of the poetic traditions of his time to speak about the pain and wonder of life.

“He understood that we are profoundly faulty and the body is full of decay," she said. “We are essentially sort of a disaster, but the most miraculous disaster that there has ever been. He was able to hold love and dread in the same hand.” She said she hoped the book, which took a decade to write, would give readers “a set of tools to unpick him, because when you do crack a Donne poem it is like cracking a safe. There is gold inside.”

Health minister, psychiatrists want mental, physical healthcare equated.

psychiatrists

Minister of Health and Labor Peep Peterson (SDE) met with representatives of the Estonian Psychiatric Association (EPS) on Thursday, where they discussed the nationwide shortage of psychiatrists and clinical psychologists in public medicine and agreed that mental healthcare has been playing second fiddle to physical healthcare in Estonia.

According to National Institute for Health Development (TAI) figures, a total of 228 psychiatrists were practicing in Estonia in 2019, more than half of whom were near or approaching pension age, the Ministry of Social Affairs said in a press release Friday. Under the psychiatry specialty development plan drawn up by the EPS, however, the ideal total should be 260, or 30-40 more than that. At Thursday's meeting, Peterson and association representatives discussed the role Estonian Health Insurance Fund (Haigekassa, EHIF) prices could help keep mental health professionals on the labor market and in public medicine.

"We're no longer competing with foreign countries for workers; homegrown residency graduates prefer the private sector for financial reasons," EPS chair Anne Kleinberg highlighted. Peterson also acknowledged that while societal expectations on psychiatrists and clinical psychologists are high, the latter nonetheless aren't highly valued in solidarity-based financing of medicine

You’ll have to completely change the way you play ARAM in 2023.

2023

It’s highly unlikely that Riot Games will ever bring back the buggy Summoner’s Rift winter map that the community begs for every year, so we are left to contend with the frigid temperatures on Howling Abyss.

Significant balance changes are coming to the Murder Bridge, which will reduce poke and sustainability, while enhancing other classes that haven’t been flourishing on this map, namely assassins. New map features are being added as well, the Modes Team shared in their latest dev post.

Since the dawn of ARAM, hardcore players have created special accounts to play this mode that only contains poke mages, AD carries, and healer supports. There’s no recalling, hence anything that helps you stay out in the field or dish out continuous damage without getting hit
yourself has been overpowered.

In 2023, all that will change. Marksmen will no longer be able to lifesteal off one wave back to full health. Melee champions are getting tankier, while long-range spells hurt less.

Currently, damage dealt by champions over 1000 units away is reduced by 15%. The update will reduce damage dealt anywhere from 15 to 30% based on being 1000 to 2000 units away.

Action Designer Chris Brewster Interview: Black Adam.

Black Adam

Black Adam has grossed over $350 million worldwide, marking a definite shift in the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe. Black Adam introduces the titular anti-hero and the Justice Society of America, while also bringing Henry Cavill's Superman back into the fold. Black Adam features some of the most brutal action sequences in the DC Universe, with the anti-hero literally tearing an enemy in half.

The iconic action sequences in Black Adam were designed by industry veteran Chris Brewster. Brewster has had a hand in countless superhero action sequences while working on Netflix's Daredevil, Ant-Man And The Wasp, Loki, and many more DC and Marvel projects. Brewster has an impressive understanding of action sequences and stunt work from his work as a stunt performer, stunt double, fight choreographer, and stunt coordinator. Alejandro Garnacho: The Manchester United teenager 'proving joy of football'.

It has been some week for Manchester United teenager Alejandro Garnacho, who is "proving the joy of football" after scoring a 93rd-minute winner against Fulham - his first goal in the Premier League. The 18-year-old will not be heading to the World Cup with Argentina but can reflect on a breakthrough few days after being made to earn the trust of boss Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman warned the youngster he must keep the right "attitude" and "approach" after an outstanding half-hour cameo in the 4-2 Carabao Cup win over Aston Villa on Thursday, when he provided two assists. It came after his experience on United's pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, when he was prevented from playing in matches as a disciplinary measure after twice turning up late for team meetings.

Garnacho seems to be taking his manager's advice on board and, after replacing Anthony Martial in the 72nd minute at Craven Cottage, grabbed a dramatic winner in stoppage time with practically the last kick of the match as United beat Fulham 2-1. The visitors, who had earlier taken the lead through Christian Eriksen's first goal for the club before ex-United man Dan James equalised for Fulham, were fortunate to get the three points. Not that the delighted teenager, who quickly tore his shirt off (later getting a booking for it) would mind too much about that as he headed towards his side's fans in delight.

New Study Says Fertilizing Your Flowers Makes Them Repulsive to Bees.

Bees

A study published in the PNAS Nexus journal this week found that fertilizer confuses bees and discourages them from landing on flowers which had it applied. Furthermore, it’s another study that points to the adverse effects of imidacloprid, a popular pesticide that mimics the effects of nicotine on the central nervous system of insects.

Flowers attract bees not only by their smell and color but also by using a small electric field, which bees recognize. Adding fertilizer can change that electric field, driving the pollinators away from what is a viable food source for them. The study aimed to find out whether fertilizers affect the color, smell or electrical charge of flowers visited by bumblebees. “There are a number of cues that bees use to decide which flower to land on. Like us, they are attracted by certain smells and colors, but bees rely on an extra feature: the electric field of a flower.

As bees fly through the air, their bodies become positively charged. When they came across negatively-charged flowers, their small bodies sense the flower’s electric field like a magnet. When they pollinate, the bees change the flowers’ electric field. The next bees that come along will be able to tell from the electric field that these flowers are likely tapped out, and will skip them entirely,” explains Science Alert, an outlet reporting on the study. While the study didn’t find that the imidacloprid sprayed on a field changed the color or smell of the flowers, it unfortunately found that it affected the “magnitude and dynamics” of the electric field, effectively blinding the bees.

“If you imagine that in terms of vision, it’s like that light is too bright and it’s blinding them,” Ellard Hunting, a study author and biophysicist from the University of Bristol, told Insider.

Wells are running dry in drought-weary Southwest as foreign-owned farms guzzle water to feed cattle overseas.

Southwest

Workers with the water district in Wenden, Arizona, saw something remarkable last year as they slowly lowered a camera into the drought-stricken town’s well: The water was moving. But the aquifer which sits below the small desert town in the southwestern part of the state is not a river; it’s a massive, underground reservoir which stores water built up over thousands of years. And that water is almost always still.

Gary Saiter, a longtime resident and head of the Wenden Water Improvement District, said the water was moving because it was being pumped rapidly out of the ground by a neighboring well belonging to Al Dahra, a United Arab Emirates-based company farming alfalfa in the Southwest. Al Dahra did not respond to multiple requests for comment on this story.

“The well guys and I have never seen anything like this before,” Saiter told CNN. The farm was “pumping and it was sucking the water through the aquifer.” Groundwater is the lifeblood of the rural Southwest, but just as the Colorado River Basin is in crisis, aquifers are rapidly depleting from decades of overuse, worsening drought and rampant agricultural growth. Residents and farms pull water from the same underground pools, and as the water table declines, the thing determining how long a well lasts is how deeply it was drilled.

Which global trends will shape innovation in 2023?

trends

This past year has sparked many cultural shifts in the world around us, driving consumers to reevaluate what truly matters to them regarding the way they live and the products they buy. These forces provide a sturdy framework for developing foods and beverages that should achieve desirable market penetration. According to ADM’s 3rd Annual Proprietary Global Consumer Trends Report, there are four evergreen macro drivers that are directing consumers’ priorities and considerations for how they choose to live their best lives.

Shifting lifestyles: how consumers work today shape the structure of their daily routines including how (and when) they shop, prep (cook) and eat. Technological acceleration: Information access and social connectivity are opening new experiences in food culture, and advancements in the supply and production sector are generating more innovations delivered quickly to market. Demographic changes: Migration and urbanization are increasing exposure to multi-cultural customs and cuisines, and the emergence of distinct generational characteristics will create new opportunities for differentiated products.

Economic & political climate:  As 2023 dawns, political and consumer activism will continue to drive conscientious consumption. This will impact products they choose as they signal support through their purchasing as they nourish themselves and their families. These macro currents along with enduring consumer tendencies (health/well-being, sustainability and food security) have coalesced to yield eight significant and distinct consumer trends.

Vietnam struggles to break one of world's biggest coal addictions.

Vietnam

During the COP26 climate summit last year, the government boldly promised to end the construction of new coal plants and phase out the dirtiest of those already running, even as energy demands soar in the manufacturing powerhouse. "But this is not actually what Vietnam is doing at a national level," Nandini Das, an energy research and policy analyst at Climate Analytics, told AFP.

Vietnam pledged to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, but with coal and gas still a major part of its energy mix one year later, that commitment is on shaky ground, she said. The authoritarian communist state has also jailed four green activists this year, including anti-coal campaigner Nguy Thi Khanh, alarming environmentalists who argue it will be even harder for Vietnam to banish dirty energy without them.

"With the climate leaders in prison I think there's grave doubt about the country's ability to achieve its goals," said Michael Sutton, director of the Goldman Environmental Foundation. He said "leaders like Khanh are instrumental in building public support" for radical change to Vietnam's economy.

Aftersun Has the Best Final Shot of Any Movie in Years.

Aftersun

When was the last time you saw your father? is a question that can mean radically different things depending on when it’s asked. It could be as simple as Has your dad gone to the store yet, or Maybe you should give him a call. But it’s also a way of asking How long has it been? Does it still hurt? The difference lies in that last, the shift from recency to finality that can happen in an instant, and the last time becomes the last time.

Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun, her debut feature, is about the last time she saw her father, and part of its power is the refusal to define exactly what that means. Set at a Turkish seaside resort in the late 1990s, the movie follows 11-year-old Sophie (newcomer Frankie Corio) and her father Calum (Normal People heartthrob Paul Mescal) over the course of an emotionally fraught vacation.

Calum and Sophie’s mother have recently split up, and he’s hanging on by a thread, desperate to give his daughter a memorable experience as he struggles with financial strain and apparent depression. Wells has declined to specify exactly which parts of the story are drawn from her life, but she admitted in a post about the film that while most films are personal, Aftersun is “more than even those most,” and pictures of her and her father at the time bear an uncanny resemblance to Corio and Mescal.

A new analysis by the McKinsey Technology Council identified 14 of the most significant technology trends unfolding today that are expected to revolutionize operations in a wide range of sectors. SAFETY4SEA picked the most relevant ones to the shipping, oil and gas, and the logistics sector, presenting their potential impact on these sectors.

Closely related to machine learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI) describes machines or computers behaving in ways that we previously believed required human intelligence. AI enables the transformation to paperless and automated procedures, bringing cost reductions and speed by eliminating routine tasks. Automating processes enabled through AI can help identify problems before they happen, so AI is considered a major boost to effective decision-making.

An advancement in connectivity protocols, such as 5G/6G cellular, wireless low-power networks, low-Earth-orbit satellites, and other technologies, enable solutions that can drive growth and productivity across a wide range of industries.

Somali people start a new war with al-Shabaab that will end them surely .

Somalia

The former president of DG Hirshabelle, Mohamed Abdi Waare, has confirmed that the Somali people have started an uprising against the terrorist group Al-Shabaab. to eliminate this extremist group of al-Shabaab to be eliminated from the whole country with the support of the federal government of Somalia

Waare said that this matter is appreciated by the local people and that everyone was able to organize the community in early 2008, an attempt was made to remove al-Shabaab from the country in order to achieve great success. Unfortunately, that initial uprising did not succeed because the government at the time was not very supportive of the people's sentiment against Al-Shabaab and it did not spread to other regions of the country.

The former president of Hirshabelle indicated that this should be taken advantage of while the blood of the people is rising in the country five years after the problems faced by the al-Shabaab group in the country caused by the big explosion in this way the people rose up. but they did not understand but this government will not let this opportunity pass again, he said

Waare emphasized that this war is not a government initiative but a public initiative, the government is only required to support it. He also said that some tribes will not join the war. He pointed out that he has finally come close to the illusion of wanting to eliminate al-Shabaab from their lives.

He concluded by saying that for the first time it was proved that this al-Shabaab group works like the mafia and there is no excuse for not having religion or Islam, so this has finally become very clear to the government. It is using that feeling and passion in the community to fight al-Shabaab and liberate the whole country, he said.
