Building the Future: Southwest Somalia Launches New Teacher Training Center in Baidoa

In a major step toward improving education in Somalia, the Southwest regional state leader, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, officially laid the foundation stone for a new Teacher Training Center in Baidoa, the administrative capital of the region.

The ceremony, held on Saturday, was attended by key government officials, including the Southwest Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Learning Zahra Osman Ahmed, Baidoa’s Mayor and District Commissioner Abdullahi Ali Watiin, and several senior leaders committed to advancing the region’s education sector.

A Vision for Stronger Education

Speaking at the ceremony, President Laftagareen reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rebuilding and improving the education system in Southwest State. He emphasized that investing in teachers is central to this mission, stating:

“This center is part of our broader strategy to invest in the future by empowering educators.”

The leader’s words reflect a growing recognition that teachers play a critical role in shaping the next generation and that quality education is essential for lasting peace and development.

What the New Center Offers

The Teacher Training Center will feature multiple specialized sections focused on training, mentoring, and equipping educators across the Southwest region. Officials noted that the facility is designed not only to boost teaching quality but also to expand the professional skills and capacity of the entire teaching workforce.

This initiative is part of a wider effort to revitalize educational institutions and ensure that students across Southwest Somalia have access to well-trained teachers who can inspire learning and growth.

A Brighter Future for Southwest Somalia

As Somalia continues its journey toward recovery and progress, investments in human capital—especially in education—are key to building resilient and prosperous communities. The new Teacher Training Center in Baidoa stands as a powerful symbol of this vision: a Somalia where opportunity and learning shape a brighter tomorrow.
