 Somali Forces Gain Ground Against al-Shabaab in Hiiraan

The Federal Government of Somalia’s Ministry of Defence has reported major progress in its ongoing counterterrorism efforts in Hiiraan region. Somali National Army forces, working alongside local residents, launched an operation targeting al-Shabaab militants in Gumarre, part of the Moqokori district.

The offensive resulted in the successful capture of contested areas where al-Shabaab fighters were previously stationed. According to military sources, operations are now advancing towards Ceel-Qooxle, where intense artillery exchanges continue.

Though the Ministry did not release exact casualty numbers, it confirmed that the battlefield has witnessed various losses.

In recent months, Moqokori and its surrounding regions have seen an increase in operations designed to dismantle al-Shabaab’s remaining strongholds. These efforts are part of a wider national strategy to stabilize rural areas and restore peace in Hiiraan.
