President Laftagareen Visits Frontlines in Bay Region, Rallies Troops Against Al-Shabaab
Southwest State President Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen made a morale-boosting visit to frontline troops in the Bay region on Sunday to assess military readiness and encourage forces ahead of intensified operations against Al-Shabaab.
During the visit, President Laftagareen praised the bravery and dedication of the soldiers, promising unwavering support from both the government and the people. “There is no retreat, and you have the full support of the government and the people,” he declared. “We will soon defeat the Khawarij.”
The trip underscores the importance of ongoing operations across Bay and Bakool, where Somali National Army units and Southwest regional forces are working together to dismantle Al-Shabaab strongholds. Just last month, around 20 militants — including foreign and local commanders — were killed in the Barujed area near Deynunay.
The Somali federal government, in coordination with regional administrations, continues to push forward with expanded joint military campaigns aimed at liberating rural areas and reestablishing civilian control.
