The Khatima administration, which is headquartered in the city of Lasaanoud, the capital of Sool Region, accused the Somaliland government of sparking a conflict in the region.
A statement issued by the Secretary of Security and Defense in the Khatima Administration indicated that Somaliland on Wednesday launched an attack on an area in Sool Region, and explained that its forces confronted the attackers with all determination and turned them back.
Khatima stressed in its statement that Somaliland seeks to turn the conflict in the region into a clan war, which raises local concern and constitutes an obstacle to the peace process.
It is noteworthy that the Sool region has witnessed, since the beginning of 2023, a conflict between Somaliland and opposing clan militias that managed to control “Lassanud”, the administrative capital of the region, and other areas that were administered by Somaliland, which has repeatedly threatened to regain those areas, which portends the continuation of violence in the region.
