El-Dhere Forest Operation: Somali Forces and Airstrikes Deal Crushing Blow to Al-Shabaab
In a decisive move to eliminate terror networks, the Somali National Army (SNA) and allied local forces launched a highly coordinated operation targeting Al-Shabaab militants hiding in the El-Dhere forest, a dense region straddling the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle border.
According to a statement released by the Federal Government, the multi-pronged assault included both direct combat and precision airstrikes, coordinated with international partners. The operation led to the elimination of numerous Al-Shabaab leaders and fighters, as well as the destruction of several hideouts the militants had used for staging attacks and taking refuge.
Though the government did not release exact casualty numbers, officials confirmed the strike was a success and part of a broader national campaign to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s operational presence in central Somalia.
The El-Dhere strike demonstrates Somalia's evolving military strategy—integrating ground force precision with aerial intelligence and international support. It’s also a reminder to extremist factions: there are no more safe zones.
As the Somali government intensifies its operations, the message becomes clearer by the day: Terrorism will not find shelter in Somalia—whether in cities, mountains, or forests.
This operation marks another milestone in the ongoing journey toward restoring national peace, stability, and full territorial control.
This operation is a clear testament to the growing strength and sophistication of Somalia's counterterrorism efforts
