Tragic Loss in Romford: Remembering Zahwa Salah Mukhtar
The community of Romford has been left in shock following the tragic death of 27-year-old Zahwa Salah Mukhtar, who was found fatally injured on Chadwell Heath Lane early on Saturday morning, August 16.
Police confirmed that they were called at 5:34 a.m. to reports of an assault, and despite the efforts of paramedics, Zahwa was pronounced dead at the scene. Four men have since been arrested in connection with the case. A 35-year-old man is being held on suspicion of murder, while three others – aged 21, 22, and 35 – were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All remain in custody as investigations continue.
Detectives believe Zahwa knew those involved and described the killing as an isolated incident. They also revealed that she had been with a group of people in Hackney’s Palatine Road area before her death, and they are now appealing for witnesses to help piece together her final hours.
The investigation is being led by the Metropolitan Police Specialist Crime Command (Homicide). Officers established a cordon on Chadwell Heath Lane, outside a residential care home where Zahwa was found, while forensic teams carried out extensive examinations, including at nearby Little Heath Park.
Zahwa’s family, who are being supported by specialist officers, paid a moving tribute:
“Zahwa was a kind and loving person with high aspirations in life and her presence brought warmth to those around her. She was dearly loved by her family and friends. Zahwa’s tragic loss has left us heartbroken, and she will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in our hearts forever.”
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke urged anyone with information to come forward. Superintendent Clare McCarthy also reassured the community that the police are working closely with local leaders, faith groups, and community representatives to provide support and ensure safety.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to call 101 quoting CAD 1625/16Aug, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
Zahwa’s tragic passing has left a lasting wound in the hearts of her loved ones, but her memory continues to inspire all who knew her.
This is such a sad and shocking story
