In one of the most exciting Premier League clashes this season, Arsenal reminded Liverpool—and everyone watching—why they were serious title contenders. The Gunners came back from two goals down to earn a dramatic 2-2 draw at Anfield.

First Half: Liverpool in Control

Liverpool dominated early on. Cody Gakpo opened the scoring with a strong header, followed by a quick tap-in from Luis Díaz just 90 seconds later. Arsenal, still recovering from their Champions League semi-final exit, looked out of sorts and unable to keep up.

Second Half Comeback

But Arsenal came back with fire after the break. Gabriel Martinelli scored with a header to make it 2-1, giving the visitors hope. Then, in the 70th minute, Mikel Merino pounced on a rebound after Martin Ødegaard’s powerful shot hit the woodwork. It was 2-2—and game on!

Unfortunately for Arsenal, Merino saw red just nine minutes later after a rough tackle on Dominik Szoboszlai. Still, the 10-man Gunners held firm and almost snatched a winner in stoppage time when Ødegaard’s shot narrowly missed.

Liverpool also thought they’d won it late on through Andy Robertson, but the goal was ruled out for a foul during the build-up.

 What’s Next?

Liverpool, who already sealed their 20th league title two weeks ago, sit on 83 points, while Arsenal trail behind at 68. The Gunners still aren’t guaranteed a Champions League spot with two games left.

There was also drama off the pitch. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who announced he’ll leave Liverpool at the end of the season, received mixed reactions when subbed in—many fans booed his decision to leave for free.

 Around the League
