In recent weeks, Somalia has ramped up its military efforts against extremist groups like Al-Shabaab and ISIS. A series of successful operations were launched by the Somali National Army (SNA) with the support of local militias and international allies.

In Mudug, SNA forces and Macawiisley fighters conducted a precision raid in the village of Caalim, resulting in the death of top Al-Shabaab commander Mohamed Ali Gaaguf. Several other fighters were neutralized, weapons seized, and hideouts dismantled. One defector, Hareed Abdi Ali, was also captured.

In Baay region, the 8th battalion of the 60th division, aided by Southwest State Darawiish units, cleared the villages of Kuraaw-rooge and Dhanbalka. These areas had been under surveillance due to increased militant activity. The operation was led by Lt. Col. Abdirahman Nishow and Captain Awul Ibrahim, who promised ongoing missions.

Meanwhile, in Puntland, AFRICOM launched an airstrike 70km southeast of Bosaso, targeting ISIS militants. The Somali government praised the U.S. for its support, noting that intelligence gathering is underway to assess the full impact.

These operations mark a turning point in Somalia’s ongoing fight against terrorism, signaling stronger coordination between federal forces, regional allies, and international partners.
