Somali Forces Regain Control of Strategic Area in Bay Region
In a significant military breakthrough, the Darwish Forces of South West State, in coordination with units of the Somali National Army, have successfully recaptured the strategically vital area of Dinunay in the Bay region. The operation followed intense clashes with fighters from the militant group Al-Shabaab.
The offensive was a joint effort between the Darwish Forces and the 8th Battalion of the national army. It specifically targeted militant positions in Dinunay, a location situated near Baidoa—the interim capital of South West State.
Regaining control of Dinunay is considered a major security achievement. The area had previously fallen into the hands of Al-Shabaab, posing a serious threat to Baidoa and its surrounding districts. With its recapture, government forces have taken a critical step toward stabilizing the region and disrupting militant operations.
This victory highlights the growing coordination between federal and regional forces in Somalia's broader campaign to reclaim territories and enhance national security.
