The National Intelligence and Security Service has launched an investigation into reports suggesting that Ngiyi Ali Khalif, a poet, media trainer and lecturer at the Somali National University, may have defected to the militant group Al-Shabaab.
A security official revealed that Khalif was absent from his home for five days, during which his phones were turned off. The official further stated that an official report on his status will be issued in due course.
The Somali National University, where Khalif worked as a lecturer, refused to comment on the case of the suspect who joined the ranks of the Al-Shabaab movement.
Security analysts pointed out that Khalif expressed his admiration for the ideology of the Al-Shabaab movement in his recently published book, “Dabdurrig.” In this book, Khalif mentioned his visit to the areas controlled by the Al-Shabaab movement, where he claimed that he was received warmly.
