The election of Sheikh Adan Madobe is a major sign that Farmajo will not return

Lawmaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Sheikh Adan Madobe) has been elected as the new speaker of Somalia's lower house of parliament, following a long and tumultuous election.

Lawmaker Sheikh Adan Madobe defeated lawmaker Hassan Abdinur in the last round of elections. Sheikh Adan Madobe received 163 votes, while Hassan Abdinur received 89 votes.

Sheikh Aden Madobe's victory puts an end to more than a year of uncertainty in the country, and means that the two legislative bodies are now established and have a chairman.

Farmajo has only become a presidential candidate like any other candidate and will not be able to decide.

Sheikh Adan Madobe, for some time, was one of the most outspoken dissidents in the system of former President Farmajo, and was a member of the Himilo Qaran Party led by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.

Aden Mohamed Nur [Madobe], returned as Minister of Justice and Speaker of the Transitional Federal Parliament, while acting as President of Somalia from 29 December 2008 to 31 January 2009.

In April and May 2010, a rift between Madobe and then-Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke erupted, prompting Madobe to resign and be replaced by Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden.

Madobe's election, meanwhile, means that Farmajo's party, once again, has suffered a major defeat in an open-ended election.

It is also a great signal that Farmajo, who has no hope, will take the path of Hassan Abdi Nur, who, as time is running out, faces a major storm of opposition to their return.
