In a fiery series of social media posts, billionaire Elon Musk has sharply criticized the Trump administration’s controversial budget legislation, calling it a “disgusting abomination” that threatens to bankrupt America.

Just days after stepping down from his government role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk broke ranks with his former ally, President Donald Trump. His issue? The "One Big Beautiful Bill" — a sweeping package that extends tax cuts, adds billions to border wall construction, and raises the national debt cap by $4 trillion.

“This bill will blow up the deficit to $2.5 trillion and bury Americans under unsustainable debt,” Musk warned. He also slammed Congress for voting in favor of what he described as pork-filled, irresponsible spending.

The bill, narrowly passed by the House, would cut $698 billion from Medicaid and $267 billion from food assistance programs like SNAP — moves that have sparked bipartisan concerns about the impact on vulnerable citizens.

While Trump celebrated the bill as a “big growth” move, fiscal conservatives like Senator Rand Paul and Congressman Thomas Massie joined Musk in opposition. “We can and must do better,” Paul wrote, praising Musk for speaking out.

Though Musk had been a key figure in Trump’s efficiency drive, his recent comments hint at growing tensions between the two. Despite the fallout, Musk insists his opposition is not political — just “simple math.”

As the bill heads to the Senate, all eyes are on whether more Republicans will break ranks — and whether Musk’s public dissent will ignite wider debate over America's economic future.
