Somali Forces Strike Back: Over 70 Al-Shabaab Militants Killed in Major Hiiraan Operation
In a decisive military campaign, the Somali National Army (SNA), backed by local defense units from Hiiraan, has dealt a significant blow to Al-Shabaab, repelling a wave of attacks near the Hiiraan–Middle Shabelle border. Over a 48-hour period, more than 70 militants were killed, and a major cache of weapons was seized.
This operation not only disrupted Al-Shabaab’s operational plans in central Somalia but also reaffirmed the resilience of Somali communities, especially in Hiiraan, who continue to play a vital role in the fight against terrorism.
The Federal Government praised both the army and local fighters, calling the success a powerful response to recent tragedies — including the assassination of respected battalion commander Colonel Abdirahmaan Hujaale and a failed attempt on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s life.
The government remains committed to dismantling Al-Shabaab’s network and restoring peace across the country with the support of international allies and, most importantly, the Somali people.
