48 al-Shabaab Militants Eliminated in Major Joint Offensive in Lower Juba
In a bold and strategic military offensive, the elite Danab Commandos of the Somali National Army, working alongside Jubbaland’s Dervish forces, have killed 48 al-Shabaab militants during a two-day assault on terrorist strongholds near Barjala in the Lower Juba region.
According to a government statement issued Thursday, the operation was designed to dismantle strategic positions critical to the coordination and activity of the al-Qaeda-linked militant group. Two fighters were also captured alive during the mission.
“This tactical operation was carried out to destroy strategic positions of the Khawarij group in the area,” the statement declared.
In addition to neutralizing dozens of militants, the joint forces seized a significant stockpile of weapons, including AK-47s, BKM machine guns, and other combat gear used by al-Shabaab.
This mission is part of a broader military push by the Somali Federal Government to weaken and ultimately dismantle the operational capacity of al-Shabaab across southern and central Somalia. It follows a week of successful operations that resulted in the deaths of more than 120 militants, including several high-ranking commanders.
With the support of local militias and international allies, Somalia is sending a clear message: There is no safe haven for terrorism.
"Glad to see progress being made against Al-Shabaab. Big respect to the Somali forces and their partners for taking a strong stand
