Government forces carry out operations against Alshabab in Lower Shabelle region.

Somali armed forces, especially the 7th Battalion have been conducting operations against Al-Shabaab in recent hours in areas of the Lower Shabelle region.

The planned operations were carried out by the forces in several areas on the banks of the Shabelle River that flows through the region.

A brief report published in the state media stated that the operation inflicted heavy losses on members of the Al-Shabaab group who were hiding in the river banks.

The statement did not disclose the total amount of losses inflicted on Al-Shabaab.

Somali federal government forces supported by locals and international partners are carrying out operations against Al-Shabaab in most areas where the group is based in the country.
