Somalia at a Crossroads: The Growing Call for Accountability and Constitutional Integrity

As Somalia navigates a critical period in its history, the gap between government promises and the reality on the ground continues to widen. The administration of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is facing increasing scrutiny over its inability to deliver on the fundamental pillars of security, economic stability, and social justice.

Current reports from Mogadishu and the federal member states highlight a worrying trend of unilateral decision-making. This centralization of power has sidelined regional leaders and stifled the political consensus necessary for a stable federation. Perhaps most pressing is the electoral uncertainty; without a clear, transparent timetable for regional and federal elections, the democratic aspirations of the Somali people remain on hold.

Furthermore, the domestic situation is exacerbated by:

  • Security Lapses: Ongoing clashes, particularly in the South West State, underscore a failure to protect citizens.

  • Economic Hardship: Rising living costs and a stagnant economy are pushing more families into extreme poverty.

  • Property Rights: Emerging reports of land disputes and the questionable seizure of property in Mogadishu have raised serious concerns about justice and the rule of law.

The path forward requires an immediate return to constitutional order, a definitive election schedule, and a government that prioritizes the Somali people over foreign influence or political survival.
