Switzerland’s Secret Plan to Deport Somali Migrants
Switzerland is planning to secretly deport several Somali citizens to Mogadishu through special flights. The Swiss Migration Agency (SEM) announced that these flights would target Somali migrants who do not wish to return to their home country. The first flight is expected soon, yet Switzerland has not received formal approval from the Somali government.
According to the Swiss newspaper WOZ – die Wochenzeitung, Switzerland has issued its own travel documents (laissez-passer) for the migrants, since most do not possess recognized Somali travel documents. This unprecedented move has raised serious human rights concerns.
The secret deportation plan involves detaining migrants in administrative custody for up to 18 months before their deportation. Augenauf reported a failed attempt in July 2025 when a Swiss flight crew refused to transport a Somali migrant.
Swiss authorities claim that the deported Somali migrants are dangerous criminals, rapists, and violent individuals. However, Augenauf argues that this is largely propaganda and most migrants pose no significant threat. The situation raises critical questions about human rights protection and the evolving political relationship between Switzerland and Somalia.
