Somalia Delivers Justice: Execution of Al-Shabaab Militants Behind Deadly Attacks
On Monday, a Somali military court executed two convicted Al-Shabaab operatives in Mogadishu. The men, identified as Anas Abdulqadir Ali Mahmoud (“Salman”) and Aden Mursal Mohamed Iidow, were executed by firing squad after being found guilty of committing multiple acts of terrorism.
The court determined that the convicts had planned and carried out targeted assassinations of civilians and government officials, as well as bombings across the country. One of the most notable crimes linked to them was the devastating attack in Gaalkacyo, Puntland, which killed several respected community leaders, including elders and traditional figures.
Military prosecutors highlighted the men’s direct involvement in atrocities and intimidation campaigns against ordinary citizens. After reviewing substantial evidence and witness testimonies, the court issued the death sentence, which was executed without delay.
Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda affiliate, continues its insurgency against Somalia’s federal government, but this ruling demonstrates the government’s resolve to deliver justice and protect its people.
The executions mark another step in Somalia’s long and difficult struggle against terrorism—a clear signal that acts of violence and intimidation will not go unpunished.
