AU Mission Head Visits Jubbaland to Boost Security Efforts
The new head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, visited Kismayo on Monday as part of his first official tour since taking office.
During his visit, he met with Jubbaland leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam to discuss security in the region and ongoing operations against Al-Shabaab. Ambassador Diene praised Jubbaland forces for their strong performance in liberating areas and maintaining stability.
He also held talks with Kenyan troops serving under AUSSOM and met with UN and international partners to strengthen cooperation in Jubbaland.
Ambassador Diene was welcomed by Brig. Gen. Edward Banda of the Kenya Defence Forces and was accompanied by senior AUSSOM officials. He reaffirmed the AU’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in Somalia.
