Somali Forces Crush Al-Shabaab Stronghold in Lower Juba
In one of the most successful anti-terror operations this year, Somalia’s elite Danab Commandos, working closely with Jubbaland’s Dervish forces, have eliminated over 50 Al-Shabaab militants in a series of operations in the Lower Juba region.
The offensives, conducted over three days in Maqooqaha and nearby villages, targeted regrouped terrorist cells. According to an official government statement, Somali forces also seized large quantities of weapons and equipment and destroyed hideouts, including caves used for planning and sheltering militants.
While the names of high-level militant leaders killed were not disclosed, the impact of their loss is expected to further weaken Al-Shabaab’s structure in southern Somalia.
This operation is part of a growing push by Somali security forces and regional partners to restore peace, stability, and full territorial control across the country.
