In the early hours of Thursday morning, the Somali National Army (SNA), backed by Ma’awisley community militias, launched a successful assault on Al-Shabaab militants in Aboorey, a village in the Buula Burte district of Hiiraan.

At the center of the operation was the takedown of Abu Hanifa, a notorious Al-Shabaab commander who had recently seized control of the area. His death marks a critical victory in Somalia's broader counter-terrorism campaign — not just militarily, but symbolically.

Sources on the ground report that the joint forces are holding positions near Aboorey and are preparing for a follow-up offensive to reclaim the area fully. This action is part of a growing campaign along the Hiiraan–Galgaduud corridor to eliminate militant strongholds.
