Jubbaland has started operations to combat the use of the niqab 

Jubbaland security forces seized and burned hundreds of niqab worn by women living in Kismayo.

These operations are part of the efforts to fight Al-Shabaab groups, who are suspected of using the Niqaab to hide their identity during their attacks. 

Warsame Ahmed Geelle, who is the commander of the Kismayo Police Force, said that the Niqaab has ended, when he gave a report to Jubbaland TV. He said that this initiative aims to prevent wanted criminals from hiding their faces with the Niqab. 

Jubbaland has reiterated its stance against the niqab, having first banned the wearing of the veil in 2013 for security reasons. 

Authorities have warned that women caught wearing the niqab or covering their faces fully will face legal penalties, including jail or fines. 

This move comes at a time of constant concern over the threat of Al-Shabaab, which was recently defeated in the fighting in Bulo Haji area, where Al-Shabaab attacked and killed around 100 fighters.
