Al-Shabaab militants burn houses in DAARUNIMCA area.
Reports from the Central Shabelle region say that Al-Shabaab carried out a heavy attack today in the Darunima area under Ruun-nirgood district, where there was a brief battle.
Al-Shabaab managed to surround the area for several hours, after the government forces and those in the area withdrew, as confirmed by official sources.
In addition, al-Shabaab reported that during their stay in the city, Al-Shabaab burned down military houses in the government, and then withdrew from the area when they fought back against the armed forces.
The mayor of Ruun-nirgood district, Ma'alin Muhidin Mohamud, who spoke to the media, reported on the fighting and said that Al-Shabaab fighters who carried out the attack on the district were pushed back.
"They ambushed the enemy men who were Khawaja and took them to Darunima district, and when they found out about the rescue they withdrew and were pushed forward," said Ma'alin Muhidin Mohamud Kulmiye.
He also pointed out that the situation is now stable, and that the area is under the control of the Armed Forces and the Somali People's Liberation Army.
"The situation in the area is now stable and it is under the control of the government forces and those in the area, and they will stay," he continued.
In Darunima, there have often been clashes that have caused various losses, after attacks by the Shabaab militia who had already been expelled from there.
