Somali pirates seize a fishing boat with 34 Yemeni fishermen on board
Somali gunmen seized a Yemeni fishing boat near Ras Hafun, Somalia, with 34 fishermen on board, residents of Al-Khawkhah District of Al-Hudaydah Governorate (western Yemen).
The Director of Information in Al-Khawkha District, Youssef Al-Ghalisi, said that the boat called “Fath Al-Khair Al-Samoud” was subjected to piracy two days ago by Somali militants who attacked the boat and assaulted the sailors, numbering 34 fishermen from Al-Khawkha, near the “Ras Hafun” area in Somalia.
He added that 25 fishermen were left in Somali territory suffering from hunger and cold after their boat and belongings were seized, while 9 others are still in the grip of pirates and their fate is not yet known.
He explained that the sailors were practicing fishing in Somali waters with an official license from the authorities before they were exposed to the incident of maritime piracy.
