Somali pirates hijack a second ship within one month

Another ship was hijacked off the coast of Somalia on Friday, Britain's maritime watchdog said, raising fears that Somali pirates could return after a retreat.

The small commercial ship was seized by an armed group near the “Ele” area on the coast of Puntland, according to what the British Maritime Trade Agency quoted officials from the company that owned the ship.

A Maltese-flagged commercial ship was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden last week and headed to the same area off the coast of Somalia, the European Union Navy said.

The ship Ruin had a crew of 18 on board when it was hijacked near Socotra Island in Yemen, which is about 240 kilometers from Somalia. The European Navy said that one of the crew members was evacuated to an Indian Navy ship to receive medical treatment.
