Hundreds of clan militias were gathered in the “Helgen” area in the Hiran region in central Somalia to participate in the war against the Al-Shabaab movement, which still controls some areas in the region.

The Special Envoy of the Somali President to coordinate the affairs of the clan militias known as (Mawsali), Ali Getty Osman, urged the local forces to prepare for a new operation to eliminate Al-Shabaab militants and expel them from the areas in Hiran region under their control.

In a speech to local fighters in the Helgen region, Getty affirmed his commitment to eliminating the terrorist group in the second phase of military operations in central Somalia.

60 Al-Shabaab militants were killed two days ago in a joint operation by the Somali army and Somalia's international partners that took place in a village 8 kilometers from Helgen.
