The Somali special forces known as “Gorgur” announced the implementation of planned operations in the southern regions of Mudug region, Galmudug state in central Somalia.
According to military officials, the operation was carried out in the rural areas between Shabello and Ad, south of Mudug Governorate, which was the scene of bloody clashes between the allied Somali forces and Al-Shabaab fighters.
Deputy Commander of the 18th Special Forces Battalion, Major Solnog, who led the operation, told government media that the forces raided the movement's bases in those areas.
The commander pointed out that the militants fled their bases in the rural areas of Aad and Shabello after the army carried out a clearance operation, adding that the operation would continue until Al-Shabaab was eliminated in the areas of Galmudug state.
