Somali police reported that the death toll from the suicide bombing that occurred on Saturday morning in the “water wells” area on the outskirts of the capital, Mogadishu, reached 6 dead and 9 wounded.
The police indicated in a statement that among the dead were 4 soldiers and two civilians, while five soldiers and four civilians were injured as a result of the attack that targeted a military police base in the area located about 17 kilometers west of the capital.
The Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab movement claimed in a statement that the bombing, carried out by a suicide bomber, killed 49 government soldiers.
