A massive fire broke out at midnight last night in the main “Hinti Wedagh” market in the city of Johor, the capital of Hirshabelle Regional State.
The huge fire reportedly started in a bakery that manufactures biscuits and sweets in the “Hinti Wadag” neighborhood of Johar City, which is about 90 kilometers north of Mogadishu.
The efforts of local residents succeeded in extinguishing the fire, which spread to other parts of the market, but the extent of the damage caused by this fire is not yet clear.
This is the second fire incident in less than two months, and on August 28, 2023, a similar fire broke out in the same market, destroying many shops in the market.
