Elders who were working with Al-Shabaab group in Ruun-nirgood area of Middle Shabelle region surrendered to DF forces in that region. Ruun-Nirgood is the only area left under the control of Al-Shabaab in the Central region.
and the area is currently under attack by the DF forces and armed people in the area who are on the verge of being taken over by Al-Shabaab. The elders who escaped from the Ruun-nirgood area arrived and were welcomed in an area called Cadcadey which is under the district where the DF troops are. General Gacmadulle and other officers welcomed the elders who were presented to the media, who told the reason why they worked with Al-Shabaab.
They said that the group forced them to work with them and if they refused, they would face death and other problems, noting that they were in danger of being killed by the warplanes supporting the DF forces.
