Somalia’s NISA Strikes Major Blow Against al-Shabaab in Galguduud
Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), working alongside international partners, announced a successful counter-terrorism operation in the Galguduud region on Friday.
The strike, carried out in the Ceel-dhiiqo Weyne area between Ceel-lahelay and Ceel-garas, killed 12 al-Shabaab militants—including senior leaders—and left 13 others wounded, according to officials.
NISA confirmed that the target was a key al-Shabaab training camp, where more than 400 fighters had been prepared for attacks against civilians and government institutions. The raid significantly disrupted the group’s operational capacity in the region.
Following the operation, security forces pursued militants who fled toward the El-Buur district. Military officials stressed that this action is part of a broader campaign to weaken al-Shabaab’s presence and restore stability in central Somalia.
This latest success highlights Somalia’s growing security capabilities and the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism.
