Farewell to Microsoft Lens — Say Hello to Copilot
Microsoft has announced that its beloved mobile scanning app, Microsoft Lens (originally Office Lens), will be officially retired starting September 15, 2025. From this date, new downloads will be disabled; by mid-November, the app will be removed from both the App Store and Google Play Store, and after December 15, 2025, users will no longer be able to create new scans—though any existing scans in the app’s MyScans folder will remain accessible .
Microsoft recommends transitioning to its Microsoft 365 Copilot app, which incorporates scanning capabilities and allows access to previously saved scans from OneDrive under “My Creations.” However, Copilot currently lacks several popular features from Lens—such as saving directly to OneNote, Word, or PowerPoint, scanning business cards to OneNote, and accessibility tools like Read-Aloud or Immersive Reader .
This change highlights Microsoft’s broader push towards AI-driven workflows, consolidating features under Copilot, which is powered by advanced AI such as GPT-5
