120 Somalis died as a result of floods in the country

The head of the Somali Disaster Management Agency, Mahmoud Maalim Abdullahi, announced that floods resulting from heavy rains and rising water levels of the Juba and Shabelle rivers led to the death of 120 people, and pointed out that Bay, Gedo and lower Juba governorates were the most affected.

“In these floods, we lost 120 people across the country, especially in Bay, Gedo and Lower Juba governorates. This includes many who died in a boat capsizing while trying to escape from Al-Shabaab,” Abdullah said.

He also explained the difficulty of aid reaching some areas, as the floods led to the closure of many airports while the challenges associated with the floods continue in many cities within Hiran Governorate, especially the cities of Beledweyne Bouluberti and Jallaqsi.
