Changes in the Afisyon Conference Plan

 The agenda for the international conference in Afisyon seems to have changed, with the international community deciding to postpone it for a few days, in order to resolve contentious issues before the conference opens.

The conference failed after the government took several steps to thwart the conference, angering the presidents of Jubaland and Puntland. Among the measures were the forces that Said Deni said were besieged by Halane, those deployed at the airport, the agenda of the conference which, without agreement, slipped through Villa Somalia and Farmajo who still refused to hand over power.

The United Nations said in a statement last night: "The United Nations acknowledges today's meeting as a prelude to the planned summit, which was attended by representatives of some regional administrations. It urges further informal consultations to take place in the coming days, to ensure full participation is needed to make this event a milestone in the implementation of the September 17 election process. . ”

Capital Online has learned that the conference has been postponed, and that the parties have been deeply involved in resolving the contentious issues, and then reopened the conference without any further obstacles to reach an agreement as soon as possible.

However, Farmajo and his allies will meet again today in Afisyon, but Ahmed Madobe and Deni will be absent.

The conference was attended by President Farmajo and his allies yesterday, but the government took steps before the conference to thwart it, with the aim of attending the conference and then showing Said Deni and Ahmed Madobe to the opposition.

Ahmed Madobe and Deni, outraged by the government's move, are demanding the following:

1- To ensure the security of the conference venue and to remove President Farmajo's forces from Halane in order to gain security confidence and healthy dialogue Although the security of the conference has been guaranteed by AMISOM, it is believed that government forces are still in parts of Halane.

2 - President Farmajo to hand over some responsibilities to Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, and then run as a candidate.

3 - That the leadership of the conference be handed over to the international community as the term of the President has ended and he does not have the legitimacy to lead it, or an elected leadership but the presence of the international community which guarantees the implementation of the agreement.

4 - Agree on the agenda of the conference announced by Villa Somalia without consulting other administrations in the country, especially Ahmed Madobe and Said Deni.

5 - Suspension of commanders involved in the February 19 attack on the opposition.

It is unclear how the situation will turn out, but it appears that an electoral solution is not yet imminent.
